Gingerbread cakes are an integral part of the Christmas season in Estonia – the tradition of baking and decorating them dates back to the Middle Ages, when spices were brought here on Hanseatic trade routes. Considered one of the most beautiful Christmas cities in the world, Tallinn has preserved and passed on gingerbread culture through the centuries.
In the Orrrekes workshop, you can share this heritage by adding your creativity and colour to gingerbread. Choose between two decoration techniques:
- Decorating with icing – a simple and effective way to create beautiful patterns on gingerbread, which can be enhanced with sugar pearls and shiny edible gold powder.
- Gingerbread painting – a relaxed and therapeutic experience where the icing is allowed to flow freely and patterns emerge naturally and playfully.
All the materials you need are waiting for you in the workshop: freshly baked gingerbread, colourful icing and a rich selection of decorations. The finished sweets are carefully packaged so you can take a piece of the Orrrekes’ Masterpiece Christmas tradition with you.
